Need a cute box for a special present?

Ange here with some fun and easy boxes for gifting. I made all of these using papers from DCWV Crafty Christmas stack and added in some fun hand made paper bows using the DCWV Arctic Wishes mat stack. 

I think I started with this tutorial here: Box. But really all you need to remember is that you want the lid to be about 1/8 of an inch bigger than the bottom so that it fits well. So for a 2x3 box with 1in. sides you cut a piece of paper that is 4x5 and score in 1 inch on each side, cut along the score line on two sides (but don't cut the corners out), fold in and tape. Then for the lid remember to add 1/8 for a nice fit. Also if you're going to do some border punching like I did, you'll want to consider how much the punch will take off. So for this example you would want to cut a paper 4-1/8x5-1/8, so that after the punching you have a bit of a fancy lid design showing on the side. For a deeper punched design you would need to add more.

Make your own bows like I did, tie them up with twine or add a little embellishment from your stash and you have a fun little box to gift your special present in.

Cards with a sketch

 I decided to make a few cards, so I thought I'd start off with the sketch for this month's sketch challenge at Scrapbook USA Expo: (details)

Then I grabbed my mat stack from DCWV, Arctic Wishes, and whipped up a few cards. I started by flipping through the stack to find a print I really liked. These little polar bears are too cute, so I pulled a couple sheets out and went to work. I found coordinating cs and another print, then cut, punched and inked. I stamped my greeting and did the same with it. I didn't want to cover the cute polar bears and fun snowflakes, so I stuck my greeting up higher, with some foam adhesive, where I liked the look. I also cut the little polar bears out of another pp and layered them for some dimension. Then I added a little stickles for some sparkle.

With the other polar bear card I wanted to have a lighter background, so I used white cs and kept this card flatter for easier mailing.

 Then I decided I needed a card that matched the sketch a little better and wanted to use the fun Jingle stamp I have, so I found this cute house in the woods scene and went to work again.
I did more cutting, inking and punching. Also used a fun punch for the fancy strip along the bottom, foam adhesive for dimension with the sentiment and a little bit of stickles for some snowy sparkle.









I was having too much fun so I pulled out this cute line from Moxxie called Winterland and made a few more cards starting with the same sketch.

 I love the purple shades in the line but have very little purple cs in my stash (all my scrapping friends tell me purple is really hard to use but I seem to have used mine all up!), so I picked out some pink (another more subtle color in the line) which I have WAY too much of, because it's hard for me to use. Anyway, it didn't match as well as I wanted so I grabbed some purple and blue mist and a scrap and started experimenting. I decided I liked the purple best and worked mostly with that, but the Brrrr card has some blue on it too.

I started with the Winter Wishes die-cut and picked this beautiful flourish print, called Below Zero. I used both sides of the print on this card. I tore the top layer, cut, punched and inked the layer underneath, then layered them on the card with a little pink twine around them. The snowflake is chipboard with a little purple stickles and I inked the Winter Wishes die-cut and added it with foam adhesive.




Then I decided to use the bigger pieces of leftover cs and see if I could make some cute cards with them too.



I absolutely LOVE this little snowman from the line and have been using him everywhere. This guy is on the Frosty paper in the bottom corner. I cut him out used my totally old corner cutting scissors (yep I'm a hoarder), inked and attached. Then I popped out the Brrrrr die-cut, inked and attached with foam adhesive. Super easy!




I had a large-ish scrap of light blue cs too so I grabbed it and went to work on another card. I have been dying to do one of those fun window cards, so I did. :)
I used another fun snowman die-cut along with the Frosty die-cut and the same Below Zero flourish pp as in the first card. I tore another piece of the paper and attached it just along the edges because I wasn't sure how my window was going to work yet. Then I picked out the circle frame sticker, next I eyeballed where I wanted the snowman die-cut to go on the inside and then put it on the front of the card about the same distance from the top. I took the frame sticker and held it over the snowman so he was centered, moved the die-cut and put the sticker down. lol Totally eyeballed. Then I grabbed my circle cutter (make sure you lay your card open on your mat so you don't accidentally cut the back too) and cut the center of the frame out.
 Attach the Frosty die-cut with foam adhesive and glue your snowman die-cut inside. Last but not least I inked the edges of my card and I was done.
 Isn't he cute?

Trim the Tree

Hello! I've got a Nuts sketch and SOS challenge for you today using the Moxxie Party at the Pole line. First, the SOS challenge is Circles, easy peasy, so send them in and lets see your layouts/projects! All the info can be found here.

While thinking of this challenge I came upon this Nuts sketch:

Yep, perfect! Look at all those circles. So then I went looking for a photo. I don't print at home (normally) and I didn't have any 5x7's that I wanted to, or could, cut down, so I just grabbed a 4x6 that I wanted to scrap and trimmed up the 6 inch side a little.

This is a photo of my older three posing with the tree their dad always makes sure they have in their room. It's one of the things he loved about his childhood, so he gets one for them to decorate. :)




As you can see I followed the sketch fairly close with a few minor adjustments here and there. I thought it would be fun to make the journaling circle into an ornament and hang it on the layout along with another fun Moxxie die-cut. I did a little hand stitching, inking and added some glossy accents to the ornaments on the tree and berries on the journaling circle.

I used this paper. I love the beautiful colors here. They are so awesome for winter and go so well with the chilly feel of the cold and snow. But the frosted edges and snowflakes on the paper make it even more fun to use. This line is definitely one of my favs!

So with this one sheet I made all of these:

A beautiful snowflake, a fun tree ornament and a small gift box. Yes, they were all from one sheet of paper.

Now that you've got all your entries in to win this fabulous line here's the details on making the snowflake.

I cut my sheet of paper into 9 4x4 squares. The snowflake used 6 squares, I used two for the gift box and the last one in the ornament. 

The photo below shows the step by step process for the snowflake. 

1- score the middle of the square from one corner to the other.

2-3 fold it and cut. I measured a little more than 1/4 inch between each cut and then cut the last little piece out. Make sure you do NOT cut through the center fold, except on that last piece if you want it open.
4-5 open the square back up and start gluing. I just put a little glue (you'll want something stronger than a tape runner) on one strip at the point. Take the strip (start in the middle) and the one directly across from it and fold them toward  you until you can glue them together. Then you take the next two and fold them away from you. You alternate toward you and away until you are done.

Now to assemble the individual pieces, I just took two and glued their bottom pieces together until I had 3 sets of two. I waited for the glue to dry, but found that my glue wasn't quite strong enough to hold the tight fit of all 6 pieces together. So I punched a hole through each set of 2 and put a pretty brad through them all.  Love when I have items sitting on my table to grab and use like that. It was a purple pearl brad and looks so pretty in the center of my snowflake. :)

This would be a fun and simple decor project for you kids!





Now the ornament was super simple. I took that last square from my sheet of beautiful pattern paper and cut it into strips, wrapped each strip around the end of my stylus, grabbed the inside piece with tweezers and pulled it out until I liked the look of my curly paper.
 Then I dropped them inside and went looking for some "snow" which came in the form of some ball fringe trim and fluffy yarn that I had hanging around in the ribbon pieces jar. I cut the balls off the fringe and cut the fluffy yarn into smaller sections and dropped them in too.
  For the hanging snowman, I took the cute sticker off the sticker sheet smashed some blue twine into the glue and then put the other sticker on the back so when it spins in the ornament you get to see the adorable little snowman all the time. I gently bent the sticker to put it in the ornament and then reached in with the end of my stylus and finger to straighten it back out. Pull the twine up and tie a big loop for hanging. I made sure to tie it around the pin loop coming out the top so it wouldn't slip into the ornament. Add some pretty ribbon to the top and you have yourself fun decor for the tree. My 14yr old daughter loved this!

Family w/ DCWV

Hey there! Ange here, with a Christmas layout using DCWV Crafty Christmas!
   It's getting to be that time of year and if you haven't already gotten your family photos done, you're probably looking into scheduling one. Every time we do a family shoot we end up with many "out-takes" before we get the "good" photo. But often I love the out-takes almost as much as the photo I'm after. It's all about the little moments, isn't it? So this layout has the "good" family photo that I used for Christmas cards last year, along with some of the funny photos that preceded it.

  These papers are so awesome! I love the heavy weight and the kraft... need I say more? Ok, I will. :) I love these little embossed stockings hung along the top and since I was following a 2 page sketch from Nuts About Sketches, I grabbed both papers from the stack for my base. Then I cut 2 strips from the red polka dot for matting the photos and ran some washi tape along the top and bottom. The journaling spot is the backside of the present pp, also embossed! I cut one piece to back the journaling, cut another for the journaling and edged it with tape and then fussy cut some of the presents out for embellies. Then I used the tag pp (it's embossed too!) for the title, backing it with some green cs and tying a bit of twine around it, and fussy cut the cute little tree from that pp also. I did my beloved inking of the edges on all the cut pieces of pp but not around the layout itself. Super simple but so fun! Here's couple close-ups and a list of products used. :)Ange
